The restart was spectacular! I had the entire level of the parking garage fogged and we drove 130 miles home in limp mode.

Then a stall at the exit and low power to the parking garage. Last was a vague feeling that power was down from time to time as we traveled down Rt 81 to Wilkes Barre, PA. Then a couple of stalls and very hard starts within a hundred yards of home. The first couple of stalls I blamed on fuel jelling or water. I speak from a "learning experience" taught to me by my A5. Once in awhile the problem will advance to the stage that you go into limp mode without so much as a CEL. Sometimes your restarts will be accompanied with a cloud of smoke. Usually you'll get intermittent unexplained stalls. If I'm correct the EGR will at some point get far enough out of specs to throw a code, but don't hold your breath. The result is that the ECU blames the MAF sensor and sends you or your tech down a false trail. While it's equipped with a sensor which should determine the amount of opening or closure, I found that all is sometimes not quite as reported to the ECU. I have gotten myself a Ross-Tech VCDS and created a couple of logs, which seem to have the following things in common:ĭoes anyone of you have an idea what causes this? after the above, letting off the throttle and keep in gear, while car is coasting along when merging on the highway or similar but I'm not talking WOT or hard acceleration, just the normal speeding up to traffic speeds

accelerated to at least 50km/h once, i.e. I can reproduce the phenomenon and cause the MIL to come on under the following circumstances:

It drives okay and has good power throughout the RPM range, no unusual noises or smoke as far as I can tell, but I'm no expert.ĭespite that, I repeatedly get the MIL (Check Engine Light) to light up, but only when I'm coasting/letting the car roll in gear with no load. I have a 2006 Jetta TDI with the 5-spd manual.
